TENNESSEE DEMOCRATIC PARTY STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT TRUMP VISIT THE HERMITAGE
Nashville, Tenn. (March 15, 2017) – The Tennessee Democratic Party released the following statement prior to President Trump’s visit to the Hermitage, the historic home of President Andrew Jackson:
“President Andrew Jackson is not always on the right side of history, but Jackson, the father of the Democratic Party, left us a legacy that says that the common man has a place in the political process and is no less important than the rich and powerful. When President Trump delivers a wreath to President Jackson’s grave, he should know he is honoring a man who hated the type of corruption and duplicity we are seeing from President Trump and his administration.
The devastating nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report showing the Republican TrumpCare plan will take away health care coverage from 24 million Americans and substantially raise premiums on seniors illustrates this perfectly and shows that President Trump is clearly no “man of the people.” The Republican plan is devastating for the elderly, working people, the chronically ill, children, the disabled, women, and for hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans who gained health insurance coverage through the ACA. President Trump promised a plan with “insurance for everybody.” President Jackson would be appalled by his elitism and his dishonesty.”
